SHOP, COLLECTION AND WISHLIST

How Modellwelt works

Modellwelt brings your private inventory, public collection and shop together. Know what you own and where it is, keep track of missing pieces and follow your sales through to dispatch.

You can use Modellwelt just for your collection and wanted list. Selling is optional.

MORE THAN AN ITEM LIST

Inventory management for your collection and shop

The more pieces you own, the harder it is to remember them all. Your inventory records each example, where to find it and whether you want to keep or sell it.

All your stock in one place

See what you already own and tell similar examples apart. When you next buy a model, you can check your collection instead of relying on memory.

  • Record each physical item separately. Two identical models can have different conditions, photos, purchase prices and selling prices.
  • Use an existing catalogue model or add a new one with its category, manufacturer, item number, scale and variant.
  • Edit the description and details later directly from the inventory overview.

Search and filter your inventory

Sold a model, or been asked about a particular piece? Find its record and saved storage location without first searching through every box.

  • Find items by name, brand, number or storage location, and filter by available, reserved or sold.
  • See the photo, condition, packaging, storage location, purchase price, visibility and selling price in one overview.
  • See which set an item belongs to and open the correct item for editing.

Purchase costs, storage locations and internal notes

When packing, you know which shelf or box holds the item. When deciding on a price, you can check what you paid. These details help you stay organised and remain hidden from visitors.

  • Record the purchase price and a storage location, such as 'Shelf B, compartment 3'. Locations you have used before are suggested again.
  • Keep internal notes about an item's origin, special features or information for your own organisation.
  • Purchase prices, storage locations and internal notes do not appear in public listings or collections.

Describe condition and packaging accurately

Two examples of the same model can appeal to a collector for very different reasons. Clear condition details help buyers decide whether an item suits their collection and clarify potential misunderstandings before buying.

  • Record the condition of the item and its packaging separately. Specify whether it has been played with, unpacked or is complete.
  • Indicate original packaging and missing parts. Additional fields are available to suit the category.
  • For model cars, model railways, kits and radio-controlled models, you can add relevant details such as the prototype, gauge, system or version.
  • Use suggestions for brands, manufacturers and scales that have already been entered.

Available, reserved or sold

See which items are still available to offer and which already belong to an order. This helps you keep track of your stock when several sales are in progress.

  • An order reserves the specific items involved. Once payment is confirmed, they are marked as sold.
  • When an unpaid order is cancelled, the reserved items become available again.
  • You can also mark an item that you have sold or given away outside Modellwelt.

Take, edit and display detailed photos

A prospective buyer cannot pick up the model. Detailed photos show paintwork, packaging and any flaws; rotation and cropping help you make the important details visible.

  • Upload up to ten photos per item in JPG, PNG or WebP format. Images are resized for display.
  • Rotate and crop photos directly. Publicly displayed images receive a watermark with the platform and shop names.
  • You can edit photos while the item is neither reserved nor sold.
  • Visitors can enlarge images, zoom in, move around the image and browse the gallery.

For example, two identical model cars remain two separate items: one in its original packaging in the display cabinet, the other without its box in your stock for sale.

FOR SELLERS

Your shop, your listings and your price proposals

Want to sell a duplicate model or make room for something new? Offer selected pieces from your inventory. Their photos and details stay with each item, and you decide on the price and sale.

Your own public shop

Someone who discovers one of your items can visit your shop to see your other offers and displayed collection pieces. You have a single link to share with fellow collectors.

  • Create your public presence with a shop name and description. Your shop page brings together your listings and publicly displayed collection pieces.
  • Share your shop link. Visitors can find you by shop name or town and search for items within your shop.
  • State whether you sell privately or commercially. Business sellers add their company, contact, business or VAT identification and return details.

Fixed prices and price changes

A clear asking price helps buyers assess an offer. If you change it later, you can update the listing and show an actual price reduction transparently.

  • Set a price for an individual item or a set and adjust it when needed.
  • Saved price histories allow a price reduction to be displayed alongside an appropriate previous price.
  • Publish your listing or withdraw it again. Private inventory details remain hidden from the public.

Receive and respond to price proposals

A buyer likes a model but has a different price in mind? A price proposal keeps their offer attached to the right item. You can review it and decide whether the sale works for you.

  • Allow price proposals for specific items or sets. Buyers propose an item price, with shipping added separately.
  • Track sent and received proposals with their amount, status and expiry date. You can accept or decline open proposals that are still available.
  • Buyers can withdraw an open proposal. A proposal is valid for seven days and does not reserve the item.
  • Accepting a proposal creates a binding order at the agreed price plus shipping.

Original sets and your own combinations

See which pieces belong to a set and which are still missing. When selling, keep the link between the complete set and its individual pieces so the same physical item is not allocated twice.

  • Assemble sets from specific items in your inventory. Include components you are still missing.
  • Assign the appropriate item to a missing component once you have acquired it.
  • A set has its own description, packaging details, purchase price and storage location. The overview shows the number of components, missing parts and progress.
  • Choose whether components can be sold individually, as a complete set or both. All assigned items must be available to offer the set for sale.
  • When a component is ordered, the same physical item cannot also be sold again as part of the set.

FOR COLLECTORS

You decide what is visible

Organising a collection does not mean having to sell it. Keep pieces private, show them to fellow collectors or offer selected items for sale. You decide for each one.

Manage privately

Want to organise your collection without showing it publicly? Keep stock records, purchase prices, storage locations and notes for yourself. The piece appears neither for sale nor in your public collection.

Display as not for sale

Want to show fellow collectors what you own and take pride in? Share photos and descriptions of your favourite pieces. They are displayed as part of your collection and cannot be purchased there.

Offer for sale

Have a duplicate or a piece you no longer need? Publish it with its price, condition and shipping details. It appears in your shop and in the relevant platform listings.

Purchase prices, storage locations and internal notes remain private even when an item is published.

You can also display sets as part of a collection that is not for sale. Missing components remain visible in incomplete sets.

FOR BUYING AND FINDING ITEMS

Discover, compare and complete your collection

Missing a particular variant or the last piece of a set? Record what you are looking for. Compare suitable offers and take your list along to your next collectors’ fair.

Find specific items and shops

Narrow your search to suitable models, countries and prices. Photos and condition details help you compare individual examples and choose the one that suits you.

  • Search by item, brand or number, and filter by category, seller country and currency.
  • Sort listings by recency or price, and choose to show only reduced-price listings if you wish.
  • Compare specific items using their own photos, condition descriptions, prices and shipping costs.
  • Discover new listings and collection pieces on the home page, or search for shops by name, town, country and currency.

A wishlist with your own search criteria

You do not have to remember every missing model or set component. Your wanted list records what you are looking for and what matters to you, such as original packaging or a maximum price.

  • Save the catalogue items and missing set components you are looking for. Refine a search with a price limit, minimum condition and original packaging requirement.
  • Choose whether set listings should also be included in matches, and turn search alerts on or off as needed.
  • Missing set components remain visible even without an active search alert. When you assign an item you have acquired, the corresponding search alert ends.

Take your wishlist with you and open matching listings

Take your wanted list to a collectors’ fair. At home, receive alerts for matching new offers on Modellwelt without repeatedly running the same search yourself.

  • Print your wishlist for a collectors' fair or a shop visit, or download it as a CSV file.
  • Matching new listings on Modellwelt appear as messages in your account, linking directly to the listing.
  • If you wish, you can also receive matching listings by email or as push notifications on supported devices.

Buy directly and track your purchases

After a purchase, there is no need to piece together what was agreed. The item, amount, trading partner and order status stay together, even when several purchases or sales are in progress.

  • Check the item price, shipping costs, total and delivery address, then order using your verified account.
  • Your order overview shows purchases and sales with their number, date, item or set, trading partner, status and total amount.
  • The order keeps a record of the items included, payment details and shipping status.

FROM ORDER TO PARCEL

Delivery addresses, payments, shipping and delivery notes

What was ordered, where should it go and has it been paid for? These details stay together in the order. They help you pack and dispatch it, while buyers can review their purchase and the recorded shipping status.

A delivery address for every order

There is no need to search through separate messages for a shipping address. The address confirmed for that order stays with it, even if the buyer later changes their profile address.

  • Use your profile address or enter a different delivery address when buying or making a price proposal.
  • Check the recipient's name, street and house number, postcode, town and accepted delivery country before submitting.
  • The confirmed address is saved with the order and used for the delivery note. Later profile changes do not alter existing orders.

Shipping costs, delivery countries and delivery times

Before ordering, buyers can check whether you deliver to them and how much shipping costs. Save your usual terms in the shop and set different postage for particular items or sets when needed.

  • Set shop defaults for delivery countries and shipping costs per country. You can set different shipping costs for individual items and sets.
  • Add ranges for handling and transit times, along with your voluntary return conditions.
  • Buyers see the available delivery countries, the applicable shipping charge and the total before placing an order.

Payment methods and confirmation of payment

Buyers find the payment method and reference alongside their order. Record the actual payment received so you can see which orders are paid and ready for dispatch or collection.

  • Choose accepted payment methods: bank transfer, PayPal, cash or card on collection, and payment by arrangement. TWINT is also available for Swiss shops using CHF.
  • The order includes saved payment details, instructions and the order number to use as the payment reference. Payment goes directly to the seller.
  • The seller confirms when payment has actually arrived. Opening a payment link does not count as confirmation of payment.

A ready-to-print PDF delivery note

When packing, see which items and set components belong in this parcel. Include the delivery note so the recipient can check the contents against it. There is no need to copy the address and item list again.

  • Open the delivery note directly from the order and print it for your parcel.
  • The delivery address, sender, order number and date are included automatically. Items and set components are listed with quantities and any available model details.
  • Saved shipping details and the tracking number are included. Selling prices, purchase prices and internal inventory notes do not appear on the delivery note.
  • Buyers and sellers can open the document for the order. The delivery note is not a customer invoice.

Dispatch, collection and tracking

Both parties can see when a parcel was dispatched or collection confirmed. A saved tracking number makes it easier to answer “Where is my parcel?”

  • Add the carrier and tracking number to the order in advance. Once payment is confirmed, you can confirm dispatch or collection.
  • The dispatch date and saved tracking number are visible to both trading partners.
  • For supported carriers, a link opens the carrier's tracking page.

Photograph a postal receipt and copy the tracking number

Keep your postage receipt with the relevant order. Number recognition helps you transfer a long tracking number, and you can check the suggested result before saving.

  • Save a receipt photo as a private shipping document attached to the order. JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 10 MB are supported.
  • Have the tracking number recognised from the photo, check the suggestion and copy it into the shipping form.
  • The receipt photo is accessible to the seller and authorised administrators. A new photo replaces the previous receipt.

Cancel unpaid orders

If an unpaid purchase does not go ahead, keep a record of what happened. The items become available again, so the order no longer holds up your stock.

  • Buyers or sellers can cancel an order that has not yet been paid. Reserved items become available again.
  • The order retains its cancellation status, and the delivery note also includes a cancellation notice.

Keep track of refunds and statements

If you have refunded a buyer, record it against the order. This keeps the refund and its effect on commission traceable, rather than leaving the only record in your bank account.

  • As a seller, you can record a partial or full refund of the item price that you have already paid. The commission statement takes the refund into account.
  • Recording a refund documents your repayment; it does not make a bank transfer. Returned items are not automatically added back to your inventory.

COLLECTORS IN CONVERSATION

Discussions, feedback and trust

A description cannot answer every question. Discussions help clarify details, while experiences from paid purchases give fellow collectors additional context.

Questions and answers alongside the item

Is the set complete, or is the box original? A public answer stays with the item and helps future visitors too. For collection pieces, you can discuss details and distinctive features.

  • Ask public questions about the condition, packaging, completeness or special features of a listing or collection piece.
  • Ask a new question or reply to an existing main post. The seller's replies are labelled.
  • To post, you need an active account with a verified email address, and the discussion must be open.

Manage discussions and report posts

Keep track of questions awaiting a reply and manage discussions about your pieces. If a contribution is inappropriate, you can ask the administration to review it.

  • As the seller, you can close the discussion about your item and reopen it later.
  • You can remove your own posts; existing replies remain. You can report inappropriate posts by others and give a reason.
  • You will find new posts about your items and replies to your questions under 'Messages', with a link to the discussion.

Leave and read reviews

Before buying, read how other people experienced a transaction. By leaving your own review, you give future trading partners additional context.

  • After payment has been confirmed, buyers and sellers can review each other with 1 to 5 stars and a comment. Their email address must be verified.
  • See reviews you have received and written, together with their publication status. You can edit your own review from the order.
  • Public reviews are separated by buyer and seller role. You can report inappropriate reviews for checking.

YOUR PERSONAL SPACE

Account, messages and settings

A new order, a matching offer or a changed address: your account brings tasks and details together. Choose which notifications you receive and which language you work in.

Messages and push notifications your way

New orders and matching offers need your attention. Read notifications in your account and enable push on supported devices, so you do not have to keep checking manually.

  • Open notifications in your account and mark messages as read when you have dealt with them. Wishlist matches link directly to the relevant listing.
  • On supported devices, you can enable or disable push notifications for new orders and wishlist matches separately.
  • Push settings apply to each device. You can choose email alerts for your individual wishlist searches.

Choose newsletter and member messages separately

Choose separately whether to receive the newsletter and messages for registered members. Set your preferences while continuing to receive order and account-security emails.

  • Subscribe to the Modellwelt newsletter in your preferred language if you wish, or unsubscribe again.
  • You manage member messages about your account and the platform separately; they use your profile language.
  • You can find both settings in your profile. Order, security and confirmation emails are independent of them.

Eight languages and international shops

Use Modellwelt in a language you know and discover offers from several countries. As a seller, you choose which countries you deliver to.

  • Use the interface in German, French, Italian, English, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese or Polish.
  • Supported shop countries are Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Poland and the United Kingdom.
  • Choose your shop currency before creating your first item or set: CHF, EUR, PLN or GBP. Set delivery countries separately.

Manage your account and open help directly

When your address, payment details or password change, find the settings in one place. For an unfamiliar task, the help pages guide you to the relevant screen.

  • Keep your profile, shop description, address and payment details up to date. Your profile shows your email verification status and your applicable commission rate.
  • Change your password, use 'Forgot password' or request another verification link if needed. Your session ends after an hour of inactivity.
  • Help includes topics, keyword search, printing and direct links to the relevant pages.
  • If there is a problem, you can report a user account. Your reason is sent to the administration for review and is not public.

YOUR FIRST STEPS

How to get started with your shop

You do not have to set everything up at once. Start with one piece or a wanted item. When you want to sell, add your shop details and complete the steps to enable selling.

  1. Create an account and verify your email

Register with your email address and follow the confirmation link you receive. Your account starts as a collector account.

  2. Set up your profile and shop

Add your shop name, description, address and currency. To sell, also set up shipping costs, delivery countries and payment methods.

  3. Add items and choose their visibility

Add items or sets with photos. Decide whether each item stays private, appears in your collection as not for sale, or is offered for sale.

  4. Activate selling and publish your listings

Your account needs seller approval before you can sell. The administration grants this approval. Eligible promotions allow you to activate selling yourself after verifying your email and completing your shop details.

Guide to adding your first item

CLEAR TERMS

Costs and promotions

Before selling, check which commission rate applies to you; afterwards, review the related invoices. The rate saved in your account or a confirmed fee-free period determines what applies.

Current standard rate

1.00%

Commission on paid item totals

Shipping costs are excluded from the commission calculation. Any applicable VAT is added to the commission.

A personal rate or a confirmed fee-free period may differ from the standard rate. You can find your applicable rate under «Profile & shop».

Start without fees through a promotion

During active promotions, you can qualify for a fee-free period. Each promotion lists available places, deadlines, the required items, and eligible countries and categories.

Participation is optional and does not reserve a free place. If no other fee-free period is active, the rate saved for your account applies again to new orders after your fee-free period ends.

View promotions and terms

Commission invoices and credit notes as PDFs

See which platform fees are still pending and which have already been invoiced. Download the documents for your own records.

  • View unbilled commission, the applicable minimum invoice amount, and issued invoices and credit notes in your account.
  • The overview shows amounts, due dates and payment status. Your platform documents are available as PDFs.
  • Small commission amounts are carried forward to the next statement, and recorded refunds are taken into account.

Track promotion progress and your fee-free period

See which promotion requirements you still need to meet and by what date. Once a fee-free period is confirmed, check how long it lasts.

  • Your account shows your individual participation deadline, the number of qualifying items and your progress as a percentage.
  • A confirmed fee-free period remains visible with its start and end dates. You can track participation in several promotions separately.
  • For eligible promotions, a checklist guides you through any missing profile, shipping and payment details until you can activate selling yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Why record a piece I do not want to sell?

So you can later check whether you already own a variant, where it is stored, what you paid and which set components are missing. Keep the piece private or show it in a collection that is not for sale. You do not need to sell it.

How does a delivery note help with shipping?

It is your packing list and shows the recipient which items belong in the parcel. The details come from the order, so you do not need to write out the address and contents again. It does not show payment amounts or internal stock notes.

Do I have to sell anything?

No. You can use your account for private inventory, a wishlist and a publicly displayed collection that is not for sale.

What can others see of my collection?

Only the items you publish as collection pieces or sale listings. Private items, purchase prices, storage locations and internal notes are not shown there.

Can I sell immediately after registering?

You can already add items to your inventory. You need seller approval to publish items for sale. If you join an eligible promotion, your account shows the requirements for activating selling yourself.

Can I have an order delivered to a different address?

Yes. When buying or making a price proposal, you can enter a different delivery address in an accepted delivery country instead of your profile address. Check it before submitting: the confirmed address is saved with the order and used for the delivery note.

Who receives the payment and sends the item?

The individual seller receives your payment and arranges shipping or collection. Available payment methods, delivery countries and shipping costs are shown in the listing or order.

Is my shop automatically available in every country?

You choose your delivery countries. The interface is available in eight languages; your own item descriptions are not translated automatically and prices are not automatically converted to other currencies.
