Get started & buy

Your first stepsUse Modellwelt to buy collectibles, manage your collection and, once enabled as a seller, sell items.
  1. To browse, open the sale catalogue. Choose a category or search by item name, brand or number.
  2. For your own pieces, create an account and open My inventory. Start with one item, its name, category and photo.
  3. Choose whether to sell the item, display it as a collection piece that is not for sale, or keep it in private inventory.
  4. Add anything you are looking for to your Wishlist. A search alert tells you about matching offers.
Register, sign in or reset your passwordYour account gives you access to purchases, inventory, your wishlist and other personal functions.
  1. Open registration, enter your name, email address and a password, then choose Create account.
  2. Open the confirmation email and follow its link. You can request another confirmation from Profile.
  3. For future visits, sign in with your email address and password.
  4. Forgot your password? Choose Forgotten password? on the sign-in page, enter your email address and request a link. Follow the latest link to choose a new password.
  5. If Session expired appears, choose Sign in again and sign in to your account. Save regularly when completing longer forms.
Promotions and fee-free spotsThe promotions overview shows available fee-free spots, the terms of each promotion and anonymised progress.
  1. Choose an eligible promotion and accept its participation terms. Participation is optional; you can register normally without joining a promotion.
  2. Check your personal deadline and create new, complete sales listings within that time. The promotion page specifies the required number, the duration and any country or category restrictions.
  3. Your account shows your progress as a listing count and a percentage, along with your personal deadline. Confirmed fee-free periods remain visible with their start and end dates.
  4. Verify your email address and complete your profile, postage and payment methods before enabling selling.
Find items and compare offersSeveral sellers may offer the same item. Choose the particular copy that suits you.
  1. Open the sale catalogue. Search by name, manufacturer or item number and narrow the results by category.
  2. Open an item to compare sellers, condition, packaging, item price and total price with postage.
  3. Open a specific offer to check its own photos and description. For a set offer, the price covers the entire set.
  4. On the home page, New for sale shows recent offers across all shops. New in collections separately shows publicly displayed items that are not for sale, followed by new arrivals in each sale category. Added on shows the date and Swiss local time.
  5. Open Find shops in the navigation. Search by the public shop name or its location, then open the shop you want.
  6. Use Search this shop to find a model, brand or item number. Results include only this shop’s offers and publicly displayed collection items. All items in this shop clears the filter.
  7. Open View collections to discover items that are not for sale across all shops. Search by item, brand or number and choose a category if needed. More collection items opens the next page; the shop name on a card opens that seller’s collection.
Buy an item and payOrder a specific offer and pay the named seller directly.
  1. Open the offer, check condition, photos and the total including shipping, then sign in.
  2. Open the order section and check your name and delivery address. Place order with obligation to pay submits your binding order.
  3. Open your order and check the payment methods accepted for that order. Pay using one of these methods and the recorded payment instructions; arrange any necessary details directly with the seller.
  4. Use the order number as the payment reference where supported. Return to Orders to see payment and shipping updates.
Propose a price as a buyerWhen an offer accepts price proposals, you can suggest a specific amount.
  1. Open Propose a price on the offer. Enter your proposed item price; the displayed postage is added separately.
  2. Check your delivery address and confirm the terms: seller acceptance directly creates a binding order at your proposed price plus postage.
  3. Send the proposal and follow it under Price proposals. You can withdraw an open proposal until it is accepted.
  4. If accepted, open the resulting order and pay using its payment details.
Review buyers and sellersOnce payment is confirmed, buyers and sellers can review each other with stars and a short comment.
  1. Open your orders and choose the relevant order. Once the seller has confirmed payment, you can review the other person.
  2. Choose a rating from 1 to 5 stars. You can add up to 1500 characters, for example about the item description, payment or shipping.
  3. Check your details and save the review. If automatic checks detect no issues, it appears immediately. Do not include links, addresses, email addresses or other private order details in the text.
  4. Under Reviews, you can find reviews you have received and written. Open the relevant order to edit your own review later.
  5. If another person’s review is abusive or contains private details, choose Report review and briefly explain why. The administrators will check the report.
Ask and answer questions about an itemYou can read questions and join the discussion on an offer or a publicly displayed collection item.
  1. Open the specific offer or collection item and go to Questions and discussion. Posts belong to this item from this provider.
  2. To write a post, sign in and confirm your email address. You can request a new confirmation link in your profile.
  3. Write your question or post using up to 2000 characters and choose Publish post. If automatic checks detect no issues, the text and your public name appear immediately.
  4. Use Reply under a question to stay in the right conversation. Choose Publish reply. Replies go through the same automatic checks. The Seller badge identifies replies from the seller.
  5. You can remove your own post. For another person’s problematic post, choose Report post and briefly explain the reason. Report user also lets you report the associated account.
When something is missing or does not workThese quick checks cover common questions.
  1. No sale price field? Check visibility. Collection and private inventory hide sale price. Collector accounts need seller activation; an item sold only within a set uses the set price.
  2. Missing photo? Open the inventory entry, wait for photo preparation and save new photos with the item. Try a smaller JPG if an error appears. Visitors cannot see private inventory photos.
  3. No alert? Check the active search alert, its conditions and Notifications. For email, check Profile, email confirmation and spam. For push, also check this device’s permission.
  4. Editing blocked? Check whether the piece is reserved or sold and open its order. As superadmin, also check the management banner and whether the managed account is active.
  5. Cannot sign in? Use Forgotten password? and the latest emailed link. If a problem continues, tell administration the affected page and exact error text.

Inventory & collection

Add an item to your inventoryEach inventory entry represents one physical piece with its own condition, cost and storage location.
  1. Open My inventory and choose Add an item with a price. Select its visibility at the top.
  2. Under Which item is it?, choose an existing catalogue item or Add a new catalogue item. Enter category, name and, where available, number and variant.
  3. Describe your piece and add photos. Optionally enter purchase cost, storage location and internal notes.
  4. Check and save. If you own two copies, create two inventory entries linked to the same catalogue item.
Sell, display your collection or keep items privateDecide separately for each item whether visitors can see it and buy it.
  1. Open the item in My inventory and find Sale price and visibility at the top.
  2. As a seller, choose Sell – display in the sale catalogue and enter the sale price and postage.
  3. To display it without selling, choose Private collection – display publicly, not for sale. It appears in your shop collection and under View collections; new items may also appear on the home page. Ordering and price proposals are not available.
  4. Choose Only in my inventory – hidden from visitors to keep the entry and its inventory photos private. Save your selection.
  5. First save the item as a private collection displayed publicly and not for sale. In Overview, My inventory and My sets, View collection then opens the collection section of your public shop. View shop opens the entire shop page.
  6. Open an already saved public collection item or set for editing. View collection item opens the saved public view in a new tab. If an item is displayed only through a collection set, that set opens instead.
Condition, original packaging and relevant detailsDescribe the item and its packaging separately so buyers understand what they will receive.
  1. Select the item condition, such as mint, used or damaged. Show and describe any damage in photos and text.
  2. For toys and models, record Played with and Unboxed separately. An item can have been unboxed but never played with.
  3. Select the packaging provided. OVP means original packaging. Add Box condition and whether the item is complete.
  4. Complete only the additional fields shown. Kit and RC details appear for the relevant item type; railway fields belong to model railways.
Enlarge, upload and edit photosUse the magnifier to inspect details in offers and public collections. You can also upload, crop and rotate your own photos.
  1. Open an offer or a public collection item. Click the main photo or Enlarge image to open the image viewer.
  2. Use + and − to zoom in or out. Fit image shows the entire photo; Actual size shows it at 100%. Move an enlarged image with your mouse or finger. On a phone, pinch with two fingers to zoom.
  3. Use Previous image and Next image or the arrow keys to switch between photos. Close image viewer or Escape returns you to the item page.
  4. Open your item and select JPG, PNG or WebP images under Add photos. Wait for preparation to finish. An item can have ten photos in total.
  5. Choose Edit photo. Move the crop area, drag its edges and use the rotation buttons.
  6. Apply your crop. Reset discards unsaved changes inside the editor; Cancel closes it without changes.
  7. New photos are saved with the item. For an existing photo, the editor saves immediately; other unsaved form entries remain in place.
Build sets and mark missing componentsA set links the pieces you own and records the components you still need.
  1. Open My sets, choose Create set and give it a name. Select an original set or your own combination, then save first.
  2. Under Components, add the actual pieces from your inventory. A label such as Carriage 3 helps identify each part.
  3. For a missing part, choose No item owned – component missing and select the expected item. Add a new missing item creates a catalogue entry if needed.
  4. As a seller, choose Only as a set, Only individually or As a set or individually. Enter the set total on the set and individual prices on each piece. A private set can be displayed as a collection or kept in inventory.
  5. Once you acquire a missing piece, add it to inventory first. Open the set and choose Assign an item you own beside the missing component.
  6. To sell the whole set, open Sale price and visibility and enter a separate amount under Shipping cost for the entire set. Save the set offer.
Keep a wishlist and receive matching offersYour wishlist shows missing set components and other items you would like to find.
  1. Open Wishlist and choose the exact wanted item. Add a new wanted item if it is not yet in the catalogue.
  2. Optionally set a maximum price, minimum condition and, where relevant, original packaging. Decide whether set offers count.
  3. Choose Activate search alert. Matching available offers from other sellers appear under Notifications. Existing offers are checked too.
  4. Use Export list for a CSV file or Print for a printed list. Assign acquired components to their sets and end alerts you no longer need.
Enable notifications, emails and pushNotifications remain in your account. Push can also alert you on your device.
  1. Open Notifications for search matches. Wishlist notifications require an active search alert.
  2. For additional wishlist emails, open Profile, enable email alerts and confirm your email address.
  3. Open Push in your own account. Select New orders in my shop and/or Offers matching my wishlist, choose Enable push and allow the browser request.
  4. Use Save selection to change notification types. Disable on this device ends this device’s permission; signing out also ends push for that session.
Update your profile, shop details and languageYour profile holds your personal details and information about your shop.
  1. Open Profile and check your name and full address. Sellers should add their shop name, description and payment details.
  2. Choose your preferred language for future emails and new documents, then save your profile.
  3. Choose DE, FR, IT or EN at the top to change the current page language. These instructions use the same language.

Sell & ship

Countries, currencies and international shippingModellwelt supports Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Poland and the United Kingdom. Language, shop currency and delivery country are separate settings.
  1. In My account, open Shop settings. From there you can go directly to Profile & shop, delivery countries, postage and payment methods. These settings also apply to an existing shop.
  2. Open your profile and choose your country and CHF, EUR, PLN or GBP as the shop currency before recording your first items. Amounts are not automatically converted.
  3. In your profile, state whether you sell privately or as a business. Business sellers complete their business and contact details, plus their return and withdrawal information.
  4. Open Postage & payment. Choose the dispatch country, enable the countries you deliver to and enter the corresponding postage. Orders to countries that are not enabled are not possible.
  5. For an individual model or set, you can enter different postage for each delivery country. A blank field uses the shop’s rate for that country; 0.00 means free shipping.
  6. Buyers choose their delivery country on the offer and check the displayed total. A price proposal uses the same currency and the postage for the confirmed delivery address.
Set a sale price and mark a reductionYou set the fixed price of your offer and can change it later.
  1. Open your item in My inventory. Under Sale price and visibility, select the sale option.
  2. Enter the sale price and postage in the displayed shop currency, CHF, EUR, PLN or GBP. Postage of 0.00 means no additional postage is charged.
  3. To reduce the price, enter the new amount and optionally select Mark a price reduction. Choose Save and list for sale.
  4. For a whole set, change the total on the set. An item sold exclusively within a set uses the set price.
  5. Under Invoices, open your commission invoices as PDFs and check unbilled amounts. Small commissions accumulate until the configured minimum is reached; wait for an invoice before paying. Your rate appears in your profile and the rate saved for a paid order appears in that order; postage is excluded.
Enable proposals and set a private minimum priceOptional price proposals automatically filter out amounts below your minimum.
  1. Open your sale offer or set, expand Price proposals and private minimum price, and enable the option.
  2. Enter your minimum price and save. It covers the item or entire set, excluding postage, and cannot exceed the public sale price.
  3. At or above the minimum, you receive a notification. Open Price proposals, check the amount and delivery details, then accept or decline.
  4. Acceptance directly creates a binding order at the agreed price plus postage. Handle payment and shipping in that order.
Postage, payment methods, tracking and delivery notesSave shop defaults once, then handle each shipment in its order.
  1. Open Postage & payment. Enter your default postage and select all the methods you offer under Accepted payment methods.
  2. You can select bank transfer, TWINT, cash on collection, PayPal, card payment on collection and payment by agreement. You can choose more than one.

  4. Open an order and Shipping and delivery note. Open its delivery note as a PDF and print it if needed.
  5. Choose the carrier or collection and enter the tracking number. Alternatively choose Photograph postal receipt, then Read parcel number from photo.
  6. Compare the suggestion with the receipt and select the correct number with Use number. Save shipping saves the number and selected receipt photo.
  7. After payment is confirmed, you can mark the parcel as dispatched or the order as collected. Save this update too.
  8. To set separate postage for a set offered for sale, open that set and fill in Shipping cost for the entire set. Check the amount and save the offer; 0.00 means shipping is included.
  9. Under Shipping and voluntary returns, you can confirm handling times for all your listings and transit time within the dispatch country. All times are working days, Monday to Friday. Enter separate transit times for other delivery countries in their country settings. Leave confirmation disabled if you offer collection only.
  10. For voluntary returns, choose Not yet specified, No voluntary returns, or Returns within a period. For the last option, enter the calendar days from delivery and who pays for return postage. Returns are sent by post.
  11. Save the settings and open one of your listings. The confirmed shipping and return terms appear there. New orders keep these terms even if you change them later.
Manage orders, payments and refundsAn order contains the recorded purchase, payment status and shipping details.
  1. Open Orders and select the relevant order number. Check the buyer, items and total.
  2. As a seller, choose Confirm payment received only after receiving the full amount.
  3. Use Cancel order to end an unpaid order. This releases its reserved items.
  4. After actually refunding money, open Record a completed refund. In Total item amount refunded so far, enter all item-price refunds for this order added together.
